Indie game publisher Devolver Digital has revealed that the unique fantasy adventure, Weird West, will be getting a “Definitive Edition” for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, slated for release next week. This edition will bring Wolfeye Studios’ peculiar blend of cowboys and creatures to the latest generation of gaming consoles.
Weird West first hit the market in spring 2022 as an anthology game, featuring five separate characters who navigate a twisted, alternate version of America during its founding years.
The game employs a top-down viewpoint and places significant focus on exploration, combat, and interactions with the environment. Critics lauded the game’s engaging narrative, eerie character design, and captivating universe, while some found issues with its action and technical aspects.
The Definitive Edition of Weird West is set to debut on current-generation platforms, with enhanced 4K resolution and a smooth 60 FPS gameplay experience.
These visual and performance improvements, combined with the capabilities of the ninth generation consoles, should address some of the game’s initial shortcomings. This peculiarly charming game is a must-try for those fond of alternate history, classic horror comics, or twin-stick action gameplay, and is well worth diving into Wolfeye’s eerie world.
Weird West: Definitive Edition is scheduled for release on May 8 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. The standard version is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. As of now, Devolver Digital has not confirmed if a free upgrade option will be offered.
