Respawn Entertainment has identified a single line of faulty code linked to an assault rifle that was responsible for a series of audio and graphical bugs in the 16th season of Apex Legends.
Players noticed missing rifle sounds, disappearing grenades, and phantom particle effects after the launch of Season 16. The Apex Legends servers can handle up to 128 effect “entries” for each frame of gameplay, including sound effects and physics impacts.
Any effect requests received after the server had hit its 128 entry limit were dropped, resulting in missing sounds and visual effects. After a difficult search, the team found that the Nemesis rifle introduced in Season 16 had a unique particle effect that was overwhelming the server.
Respawn Entertainment has since released a fix for the problem, though players may still experience some issues during Season 16.
