NASCAR 21: Ignition Review

NASCAR 21: Ignition is the latest installment in the official video game series of the world’s most popular stock car racing series. Developed and published by Motorsport Games, the game promises to deliver a realistic and immersive NASCAR experience with stunning graphics, responsive driving, and authentic tracks and cars.

Graphics and Sound

NASCAR 21 Graphics and Sound

The first thing that impressed me about NASCAR 21: Ignition was the visual presentation. The game uses the Unreal Engine, which allows for impressive lighting, shadows, reflections, and textures. The tracks are faithfully recreated, with accurate details and layouts. The cars look great too, with realistic damage effects, paint schemes, and sponsors.

The game also features licensed music and commentary from real NASCAR personalities, adding to the atmosphere and authenticity of the game. The sound design is also excellent, with roaring engines, screeching tires, and radio chatter from your crew chief and spotter.

Gameplay and Physics

The gameplay of NASCAR 21: Ignition is also very satisfying and fun. The driving mechanics are responsive and easy to pick up, but also offer a lot of depth and customization for more experienced players.

You can adjust various settings such as difficulty, assists, damage, tire wear, fuel consumption, and more to suit your preference and skill level. You can also tweak your car’s setup before each race, changing aspects such as tire pressure, camber, wedge, gear ratio, and more to optimize your performance. The game also features a realistic physics engine powered by rFactor 2, which simulates the aerodynamics, weight distribution, suspension, and tire behavior of the cars.

Modes and Content

The game offers three main modes to play: Career Mode, Race Now, and Online Races. Career Mode is where you can create your own driver and sign with a NASCAR team of your choice. You can then compete in the full NASCAR Cup Series season, earning money, reputation, and trophies as you race against real drivers and teams.

You can also interact with other drivers through social media posts and interviews, which can affect your relationships and rivalries with them. Race Now is a quick mode where you can jump into any race with any driver, track, and conditions you want. Online Races is where you can challenge other players from around the world in multiplayer races.

Flaws and Issues

While NASCAR 21: Ignition has a lot of positives, it also has some negatives that hold it back from being a great game. The most noticeable one is the lack of content and variety in the game. The game only features the NASCAR Cup Series cars and tracks, which means you won’t be able to race in other series such as the Xfinity Series or the Camping World Truck Series.

The game also lacks some features that were present in previous games such as dirt racing, challenge mode, split-screen mode, and custom championships. The game feels a bit bare-bones compared to its predecessors.

Another issue with NASCAR 21: Ignition is the technical performance of the game. The game suffers from frequent bugs and glitches that can ruin the immersion and enjoyment of the game.

Some examples are cars clipping through each other or the track, AI drivers behaving erratically or crashing into each other or you, pit stops taking too long or not working properly, cautions not being triggered or lasting too long, audio cutting out or looping randomly, and more. The game also has long loading times and occasional crashes that can frustrate players.

Conclusion

Overall, NASCAR 21: Ignition is a decent racing game that has some good elements but also some bad ones. The game looks and sounds great, and the driving is fun and realistic. However, the game lacks content and variety, and has many technical issues that need to be fixed.

The game has potential to be a great NASCAR game in the future if Motorsport Games can address these problems and add more features and modes to the game. For now, I would recommend this game only to hardcore NASCAR fans who are looking for a new racing experience.
